Cyclestreets.net is a brilliant little website for bicyclists. Just enter where you are and where you want to go and it will take you a proper cyclists route, tell you the distance, how quiet or otherwiseit will be and how many calories you will burn completing it.
This is extraordinary. You can actually choose a route to avoid unnecessary hills. Excellent for the part-time cyclist!

City Cycle Centre

7 Market St, Ely CB7 4PB, UK – 01353 663131

Ely City Cycle Centre is an amazing old-fashioned Aladdin's cave type department store. The stock they hold is amazing. As a pretty keen military model maker I love being able to buy stuff from a proper shop, instead of online. Unfortunately their prices are often a bit on the steep side (for kits). But it's the only really good model shop left in Cambridgeshire, so far as I know. And they also have all those other departments: I've bought ball-bearings for home DIY projects off the bike guys, a Lego dumper truck (as a nostalgic treat when I was flush after an illustration job), and all sorts from the DIY/home section. My wife loves and regularly shops at the haberdashery department. So, for stock its an unreserved five stars. For service? Hmmm, I'd have to say just three or four. Some of the staff are reasonably friendly, but some are less so. I've shopped here many, many times, and over many, many years, but haven't built up the friendly rapport I enjoy elsewhere. (There's one particular member of staff who always makes me feel that I'm suspected of being a shoplifter!) But I love this place for being so old-fashioned and diverse. I just wish I was richer and could spend more in there, and help ensure we don't lose all such high street emporiums!

Awesome model shop. Use it or lose it

You don't go to SD for the high quality products. What you DO go for is run-of-mill stuff that you know will do the job. Given the well documented issues with pay and working conditions, I think the staff at this branch do a good job, and have been courteous and willing to help whenever I've gone in there. So, well done to you guys, and don't understand the mainly negative reviews.

its a small shop but your get your basic bits it you need them , if you want a larger selection , go to the cambridge store, nice little shop in a small town , atleast we have store here to use ,

Extremely helpful and knowledgeable, even when you don't have a clue on what your on about yourselves. Always clean and tidy. Jamie who helps with bikes was fabulous, helped me pick the perfect bike with in my price range. And the correct size, as I had been previously to a well known bike place and they let me leave with buying an incorrect frame size for myself :( If you need a bike, see Jamie.

Really helpful, knowledgeable staff. They are always so quick and really reasonably priced. Never go anywhere else for my bikes.
