Oliver Cromwell's House

29 St Mary's St, Ely CB7 4HF, UK – 01353 662062

Absolutely loved it. Definitely on my list of best small museums in the region. The rooms are interesting, very educational, and give a brilliant snapshot of Britain at the time of Cromwell's life. This is done from the perspective of the habits and customs of the day but also from a historical perspective with a focus on creating a balanced and thorough portrait of the man. Quirky bonus at the end: visitors can share their view of Cromwell on a whiteboard and the museum compiles monthly statistics on how many people came out describing him as a 'villain' and how many as a 'hero.'

Very informative! The staff is very well trained and they sure know loads of history behind Cromwell. They were very generous with the information they gave. I asked them many questions and I always was satisfied with their answers.

Very nice people and a great boatyard. Get diesel from them regularly, cheapest diesel and coal for miles. They kindly let us stay on their moorings during some very bad weather. Can't recommend these guys enough.

First time boaters and we received really excellent service and tutoring from the guys at Black Prince. We are now happily on our way around The Wash.

Local Parks & Gardens

Jubilee Gardens

18 Jubilee Terrace, Ely CB7 4BJ, UK

Love this area for a family day out. The children love the park. It is right near the river with restaurants walking distance away. There are public events as well that are enjoyable. The antique shop a few minutes away is a nice little place to explore and have the kids find treasures. Great area to feed the ducks and what not as well. Nice, green, and well kept area. Just wish there were more areas that provided shade for adults.

Nice little garden leading down to the river. Has several eel sculptures. This summer with the lack of rain the grass was rather short and brown. Congratulate the council for not wasting water on watering the garden.

Cherry Hill Park

78 Broad St, Ely CB7 4BE, UK

A beautiful place to sit or play with the children. It has stunning views of the Cathedral. It has a play area and plenty of wide open space

Nice wee park at the bottom of the hill, and near the river where u can head too to get icecream from the ice cream van yum

Ship Lane Car Park

1 Ship Ln, Ely CB7 4BB, UK

Free, easy access from the road and in a great location for central Ely, the riverside and the surrounding housing area. Free public toilets aswell.

Great location and I got a great space which was big and near the door. Expensive but in line with London West end parking prices

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Witchford or Cambridgeshire. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.
Cathedral House Self-Catering & Bed & Breakfast

17 St Mary's St, Ely CB7 4ER, UK – 01353 662124

Charming house and hosts. Spent a glorious 3 nights.

I stayed with a group of friends in the self-catering Coach House. It is full of character, with an amazing collection of good books, pictures, antiques and historic artefacts. The garden is delightful. The location is superb; Ely is such an interesting city and the cathedral is spectacular. There are excellent restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops within easy walking distance. Jenny and Robin, the owners, are charming and helpful. All in all, a magical place to stay - and very English.

Poets House Hotel and Restaurant

40 St Mary's St, Ely CB7 4EY, UK – 01353 887777

Great hotel and easily accessible. We had a downstairs suite which was huge, the bath was amazing and much more comfortable than it looked. The bed was properly the most comfortable I've ever slept in! The only thing about the room was the fact you couldn't open the windows and the air con was quite loud, not too bad but I know for some people this would be quite a deal breaker. The breakfast was all locally sourced and the beans were homemade which was a nice touch. Great place and we'll definitely be back.

Romantic weekend away and Poets House didn't disappoint. Gorgeous decor, polite and attentive staff, excellent food in the restaurant and a fantastic copper bath. Service in the bar was a bit slow but there was a wedding reception on. They just need to change their pillows to a higher quality.
